CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow has praised the Valdor Voluntary Fire Brigade Association for its good service to the community.

Chow said the voluntary fire brigade not only operates in the south Seberang Perai district but throughout the state.

“Although its fire station is located in the south Seberang Perai district, the volunteers often carry out their operations or any rescue missions in other districts, assisting other voluntary fire brigades and teams from the Fire and Rescue Department.

Chow said the Valdor Voluntary Fire Brigade Association not only operates in the south Seberang Perai district but throughout the state.

“And they have been doing this for 22 years! This is the true spirit of volunteerism.

“They are the unsung heroes who soldiered on without any financial reward.

“I would like to thank and praise the Valdor Voluntary Fire Brigade Association for its strong commitment and contribution to society all these years.

“Please, do keep up all the good works you have done and do let us know if you need any assistance,” Chow said in his speech at a charity dinner to commemorate the Valdor Voluntary Fire Brigade Association’s 22nd anniversary at Dewan SJKC Kampung Valdor, Bukit Tambun today.

Also present were state Welfare and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, Batu Kawan MP Kasthuriraani Patto, Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik and Valdor Voluntary Fire Brigade Association squad captain Law Soon Chiang.

Chow also congratulated the Valdor Voluntary Fire Brigade Association for its 22nd anniversary.

“I would like to urge the volunteer firemen in the Valdor Voluntary Fire Brigade Association to constantly upgrade skills and knowledge that can be helpful in any operations and rescue missions.

“The community acceptance towards the voluntary fire brigade is getting better nowadays, therefore, all of you play a very important part to be role models in helping the community through the services offered,” he said.

Law said Valdor Voluntary Fire Brigade Association is more committed than ever to providing the best services to the community.

“Some may not know that our other duties include wild animal rescues, sanitising public places, removing hornet nests, organising communal clean-ups (gotong-royong) to prevent dengue in the housing area and many others.

“These are some examples of our duty apart from risking our lives by battling blazes and infernos since 2000, the year in which this voluntary unit was established.

“Nevertheless, we will always do our best to serve the community in any operations or rescue missions that we participated in,” he said.
