DESPITE the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, winners of the drawing, colouring and photo-taking contests, organised by Buletin Mutiara, continue to set new bars in terms of creativity.

Three contests were held, namely, ‘Bakat Si Cilik – Mewarna’, ‘Peraduan Fotografi Hias Rumah Sambut Merdeka dan Hari Malaysia’ and ‘Pertandingan Melukis Poster Bertemakan: Penang Kekal Hijau, Penang Lawan Covid-19’.

Khor Jenny, a student who emerged as the first prize winner under the ‘Bakat Si Cilik – Mewarna’ category, said colouring is part of her hobby, which influenced her to participate in this competition.

“Colouring brings me a lot of joy, and I got so excited after hearing about this competition by Buletin Mutiara.

“I made my product as colourful as possible but I least expected to come out as the first prize winner. I would like to thank Buletin Mutiara for this opportunity and my family for always being supportive whenever I show interest in such competitions,” said Jenny during a brief phone interview.

The victory won her RM250.

Second place winner, Khor Jemin, a student, was equally delighted over the fact that she could be part of the winners’ list and described this competition as a great platform for individuals to expose their colouring talents. She walked away with RM150.

“I truly love my country and if you notice in my art, you will see that I used the Malaysian flag in all of my models’ clothing for all the races from Malay, Chinese, Indian and others.

“I hope they (Buletin Mutiara) will continue to organise more of such competitions in the future,” said Jemin during a phone interview.

In the same category, Chew Yu Qi secured third place and won RM100.

Under the ‘Pertandingan Melukis Poster Bertemakan: Penang Kekal Hijau, Penang Lawan Covid-19’ category, Lim Xin Ying, a student as well, emerged as the sole winner and bagged RM300.

Xin Ying capitalised on the current Covid-19 scenario by producing a breathtaking piece of art that had all the elements of the unprecedented situation we are all in.

The product shows an individual holding a magnifying glass that gives us a close look at our dear frontliners fighting against the virus.

“Our frontliners have and are still doing all they can to fight and put an end to this pandemic, and I wanted to illustrate it through my art as a sign of appreciation for all of them.

“More than winning under this category, I am more concerned about the well-being of the people, and I seriously hope the condition will only get better,” said Xin Ying.

As for the ‘Peraduan Fotografi Hias Rumah Sambut Merdeka dan Hari Malaysia’ category, Normala Omar, Chee Choo Yon and Alina Baharudin won the first (RM500), second (RM300) and third places (RM200) respectively.
