Blood donation drive to aid low blood supply in Penang Hospital

THE issue of low blood supply at the Penang Hospital blood bank unit is alarming and it has been at a critical stage since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Because of this, the Penang government will be organising a blood donation campaign, called the ‘LovePENANG Blood Donation Campaign’.

Scheduled to take place on March 11 from 4pm onwards at Prangin Mall (lower ground), it was learnt that 20 different organisations will be part of this project.

Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng said through this project, the state hopes to collect at least 250 packets of blood to be given to the Penang Hospital.

“As a show of appreciation and to attract more donors, 500 goodie bags will be prepared, and they will be given out on a first come, first served basis.

“One bag of blood can save three lives.

“To those who have donated blood and are regular donors, you guys are very special and one of a kind.

“This is an act of kindness that has no price.

“With this, I would like to encourage everyone to come forward and be part of this noble act,” Teh said during the blood donation campaign press conference at the Penang2030 centre in George Town today.

There will also be free talks on health and life emergencies for the people, which will start at 1pm.

Each slot is expected to last 30 to 40 minutes.
