SIX hundred needy students and pupils in Datok Keramat constituency have something to cheer about after receiving RM60 voucher aid each.

Thanks to the yearly assistance from its assemblyman Jagdeep Singh Deo, the aid could at least help to reduce the burden of parents who have schoolgoing children.

The RM60 voucher was given out to the students in order for them to purchase essential items.

Jagdeep speaking in his speech at Komtar.

Jagdeep, who is also the state Local Government, Housing, Country and Town Planning Committee chairman, said the voucher could be redeemed to obtain uniforms, schoolbags and shoes.

He said this was one of the ways from the state government to assist the needy students.

“We have 600 recipients this year and it is the highest since 2013. We have a total of 5,000 students receiving the aid from 2013 till now.

“We have spent a total of RM206,500 over these years.

“This shows the state is caring for the people as all these children are our asset in the future,” said Jagdeep yesterday.

Also present were Jelutong MP RSN Rayer and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Nicholas Theng.
