QUARRY firm FYS Marketing Sdn Bhd’s initiative to turn some parts of its granite quarry site into a leisure zone to promote quarry tourism has received praise from Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow visited the company’s granite quarry site at Taman Mutiara Jaya, Bukit Mertajam, today to know more about its quarry operation and quarry tourism initiative.

Present to welcome Chow was FYS Marketing Sdn Bhd chairman Zeems Foo Kheng Sin.

Foo said he started the quarry tourism concept back in 2017 to change the people’s negative perception towards quarry activities.

“We are the first site to introduce such concept in the state.

Foo said he started the quarry tourism concept back in 2017 to change the people’s negative perception towards quarry activities.

“Now, we have a few zones in our quarry site, that have been transformed into leisure zones.

“At our leisure site, you can find a greenhouse, a bee farm, a fish pond, a garden and many others. And we welcome the public to visit this site from Monday to Saturday.

“However, they need to make an appointment first by calling our office at 04-5392540.

“Through this initiative, visitors can spend time with their families and friends here. On top of that, they can explore the green lung that can be found at the quarry.

“We hope that the public can have a better understanding about quarry site,” he told Chow.

Chow said quarry tourism is an excellent concept, initiated and widely promoted by FYS Marketing to rebrand the quarry industry’s image and the public’s negative perception of quarrying.

“With such concept, a quarry is no longer merely a site to produce raw materials for the state or national development.

Chow said quarry tourism is an excellent concept, initiated and widely promoted by FYS Marketing to rebrand the quarry industry’s image and the public’s negative perception of quarrying.

“It can be an appealing tourism destination for the local community and international tourists.

“It can also function as a recreational or special event venue while the quarry is still in operation.

“I hope that this initiative will be emulated by other quarry firms in the state,” he said.
