Colourful lanterns illuminate Armenian Park

THE ‘Pesta Tanglung Tanjong’ has made a vibrant comeback this year, illuminating Armenian Park and its environs with a splendid display of colourful lanterns.

This festival, initially launched in 2019 in the charming neighbourhood of Armenian Park, had to take a hiatus for three years due to the pandemic.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who graced the opening ceremony of the festival at Armenian Park today, expressed his deep appreciation.

“The ‘Lantern Festival’ is a cherished cultural celebration within the Chinese community, symbolising the strengthening of bonds among family members, friends, and our wider community.

“Events like this provide the Chinese community with a deeper connection to their heritage. Additionally, they offer a unique opportunity for our brothers and sisters from diverse backgrounds, as well as our visiting tourists, to immerse themselves in the festivities.

“I hold immense appreciation for the unity that exists within our community, a unity that forms the bedrock of our national harmony.

“Let us, regardless of our political differences, stand united and not allow them to sow disunity among us,” Chow said during his speech.

The event was organised by the Kampung Kolam Village Community Management Council (MPKK).

Apart from that, Chow expressed his hope that Malaysians, especially Penangites, would stay united and resist any factors that could lead to division.

“During the recent state election campaign, we conveyed the message of unity and to fight against division,” he added.

Chow said the lanterns at the Armenian Park and its vicinity will be displayed until Oct 14.

The event was organised by Kampung Kolam Village Community Management Council (MPKK) together with other partners.

Also present were Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng and other dignitaries.

Meanwhile, Wong shared that Tanjong MP Lim Hui Ying has contributed RM50,000 to organise the event.
