IT was an afternoon of elegance with a mission to raise funds for the Special Children’s Centre Penang here at Indigo Restaurant, The Blue Mansion.

Jointly organised by the Artisans International Penang, Penang Passion, and the Pink Hibiscus Club, the fundraising luncheon was attended by about 70 guests.

Artisans International Penang was established during the Covid-19 pandemic when a group of friends from different backgrounds and nationalities came together to give back to the community. They decided to put their hobbies to good use by selling their handmade crafts and others to raise funds for those in need.

This time, the beneficiary is the Special Children’s Centre Penang.

Artisans International Penang founder Sue Baskett said the organisers hoped to raise funds for the Special Children’s Centre Penang and to support some other Artisans International Penang initiatives.

“We thank the guests and donors for their support and generosity to help the needy.

“We also thank the members for devoting their time and effort towards our cause,” she said in her speech yesterday (Oct 26).

Baskett said Artisans International Penang, currently, has 18 members.

She added that the organisation had assisted a local school, two learning centres and needy students in less than a year.

Among the help rendered were providing educational materials for children, assisting in the school roof repair, and seeking laptop sponsors for needy students.

Also present at the event were the guest of honour Tan Lean Kee, who is the wife of Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow; Indonesia consul-general in Penang Bambang Suharto, and Japan consul-general in Penang Kawaguchi Yoshiyasu.
