Cooperation is imperative to tackle Covid-19, says CM

CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow today stressed the importance of self awareness and consistent enforcement by authorities to curb the spread of Covid-19 outbreak.

He said the situation in Penang was under control currently, thanks to the cooperation of the people in the state.

“They have played a pivotal role by adhering to measures imposed by the authorities to prevent the virus from spreading.

“The state is pleased to note that Penang has achieved its green zone status as no active cases have been recorded in recent times.

“There was unfortunately only one casualty which was recorded in March,” Chow told Buletin Mutiara after visiting seven families affected by a freak storm in Bagan Selat,Telok Ayer Tawar today.

He, however, told Penangites not to be complacent as the battle against Covid-19 was ongoing.

He said the people must continue to practise personal hygiene and social distancing and avoid mass gatherings.

“All these measures are to be adhered to until a vaccine is found,” he added.

Chow, in the meantime, extended his appreciation to the Telok Ayer Tawar assemblyman Mustafa Kamal Ahmad, the
Village Community Management Council (MPKK) and the constituency’s Women and Family Development Committee (JPWK) for initiating ‘Jom Tewaskan Covid-19’ campaign.

Mustafa said this campaign had effectively created an awareness on Covid-19 among the constituents, adding that banners to educate the people in the area have been put up as well.

Earlier, Chow handed out some fnancial aid to the seven families affected by storm on Apr 26.

The assistance was from the Governor’s Disaster Relief Fund with the each family receiving 10% out of the damaged property value.

Also present were north Seberang Perai district officer (DO) Zulkifli Rashid and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud.

After his Telok Ayer Tawar visit, Chow proceeded to Kepala Batas to hand over face masks, food packs and basic necessities to the frontliners.

He thanked the community for their contribution, particularly those frontliners for playing a major role against Covid-19.

“We need to take precautionary measures as the war against the virus has not ended.

“Everything will be a ‘new norm’ after this,” Chow reiterated.
