ENJOY the classic tune of Nanyang music, traditional performances and many other exciting events at the Macam Macam Macallum, to be held at the Macallum Street neighbourhood.

The Macam Macam Macallum is one of the George Town Festival’s community engagement programme, happening on July 24 and 25.

It will showcase a diverse range of performances such as music, theatre, traditional glove puppetry (potehi), and dance by local and international artistes.

“The Macam Macam Macallum hopes to present a new cultural experience to a community who might otherwise not engage with the festival,” Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi told a press conference today.

Also present were George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) communications and collaborations manager Josephine Jalleh and George Town Festival (GTF) public relations executive Ng Kim Theng.

Gooi said the Macam Macam Macallum would kick off with a three-day pre-event workshop for the local Macallum community.

“The ‘Off the Chores Go on Stage’ workshop will be focusing on women and homemakers. It will be held from July 22 to 24 from 8pm to 10pm at the Sri Saujana Community Hall.

“The free-to-participate workshop will be conducted by Sun Son Theatre from Taiwan,” he said.

Those who are interested to take part can register online at tiny.cc/t7lv7y or call 04-2501522.

Gooi said the participants who had taken part in the workshop would be showcasing their talents during a short, 10-minutes performance on July 25 during the Macam Macam Macallum event.

“They will be combining percussion, physical movements and comedic elements in their performance; showcasing the bittersweet moments of housewives,” he said.

The Macam Macam Macallum will be held from 7pm to 10pm on July 24 and 25 at the Macallum Street neighbourhood.
