IF you are a video enthusiast, now is your time.

Seize this opportunity as the Penang government, through the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC), is back once again with its latest initiative called ‘Melangkah’ music video competition.

The theme for this year is Youth For Future.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee called out to youths aged 15 to 35 to take up the challenge to unleash their creativity in filmmaking.

“The main objective of the competition is to nurture young talents, especially those with a passion for filming music videos.

“This ‘Melangkah’ song is very special because its main purpose is to encourage the youths in our society to not give up despite facing multiple challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Big amount of appreciation goes out to Jocelyn Lee, the individual behind the creation of this song. She is truly a talented person.

“I strongly believe that visuals play a very important role in shaping one’s mentality. That is why such an initiative is important among the youths in our society.

“We must continue to inspire and give hope for the young people, as well as encourage them to participate in activities that will boost their mental strength, while helping to equip them with digital skills,” Soon said during the ‘Melangkah’ music video competition press conference in Komtar today.

Submission of entries is open from today (Dec 10) until March 10 next year. It was learnt that each group can only consist of five members, and each video should not exceed more than five minutes.

The first place winners will walk away with RM5,000, while second and third place winners will take home RM3,000 and RM2,000 respectively.

There will be two consolation winners, each group bagging RM500 each.

Also present during the press conference was PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling.
