THE financial assistance provided by the Penang government to assist various types of schools this year has garnered praise.

For the past 15 years, the state has consistently allocated funds aimed at fostering the development of schools and creating conducive learning environments.

In an interview with Buletin Mutiara, SJK (C) Kwang Hwa Butterworth Board of Directors (Student Affairs) Committee chairman Ong Seng Cheah said the funds received would be used for repairing roofs and upgrading walkways.

“These two projects require RM80,000. The school will need to carry out fundraising activities for these projects if there is no financial assistance from the state,” he said.

He thanked the state government for allocating the annual aid to the school.

At the same time, Ong said the scorching heat recently had affected the pupils’ learning environments, expressing hope that the school would upgrade its ventilation system to ensure a comfortable environment.

For SJK (C) Seng Keow in Permatang Pauh, board chairman Lee Tiam Lim revealed that the funds have brought relief to the school authorities.

“We are extremely grateful for the state’s support, particularly in advancing Chinese schools’ education.

“We can use the funds to upgrade our computer rooms and other purposes,” he said.

Meanwhile, the aid received from the state government would be fully utilised by SJK (C) Aik Hua in Sungai Ara.

When contacted, its headmistress Cheryl Tey told Buletin Mutiara that the RM60,000 funding received from the state would be fully used to instal closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs).

“The state’s initiative to provide funds for the past 16 years must be lauded. It helps us a lot.

“Furthermore, our new building in Sungai Ara will benefit from the funding as we are relatively new. The allocated funds
will enhance the students’ experience and contribute to improving their learning environment,” she said.
