Genetics Learning Kits to benefit students in Penang

 

ABOUT 1,000 lower secondary school students and 600 Form Six students in Penang will benefit from a collaborative project between global medical technology company B. Braun Medical Industries and the Penang Science Cluster (PSC).

The duo have come up with the Genetics Learning Kits to inspire students to understand the basics and the important concepts of genetics for them to pursue their careers in the fields of Life Sciences and Medical Health.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who launched the programme at the Penang Science Cluster in George Town today, praised B. Braun for being the anchor of the medical device sector.

“The Genetics Learning Kits by B. Braun is a teaching tool for students, allowing them to explore the world of genetics in the comfort of their homes and classrooms.

“We hope that such a programme can be expanded to impact more students every year.

“We are sincerely grateful to B. Braun and PSC for the initiative,” he said in his speech at PSC today.

“It is an inspiration for the young students in the science and technology field. They are our future talent,” he said.

The workshops taking place when Chow and the distinguished guests visit PSC.

PSC chief executive officer Datuk Ooi Peng Ee said they aimed to spark interest in science and technology and create a culture of innovation among the young students in the country.

“We have been very successful due to the tremendous support from various parties, including B. Braun.

“We aspire to continue working together to curate more exciting Life Sciences and Genetics programmes to inspire our students and deliver quality STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education,” he said.

 

B. Braun Asia Pacific president Lam Chee Hong said his company is supportive of the programme to continue cultivating a strong interest in Life Sciences and Medical Health among the youths.

“It is our privilege to help grow the next generation of innovators, thinkers, and genealogists with a deep interest in the Sciences for the country,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy and Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI) deputy general manager S. Bharati.
