Humbly giving back

IT is true that some people in society wish to remain low-key and refuse to claim any credit even though they play a prominent role in helping others, including strangers.

They usually go about their social work without much fanfare, like assisting the needy B40 families who are greatly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic coupled with the rising cost of living.

One such person is Taman Impian Jaya Village Community Management Council (MPKK) chairman Ng Khoon Seah, under whose leadership, the plight of the less fortunate in his area is addressed as soon as possible.

In a brief interview session with Buletin Mutiara yesterday, Ng said his mantra all these years was to serve the society, regardless of race and religion.

“Every family has their own difficulties, be it financial, family matters or jobs.

“My role is to provide help to as many people as possible without hoping for anything in return.

“We have even collaborated with various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to contribute back to society.

“In these trying times, many needy families have approached us and we always want to do our best to help them,” said the 42-year-old engineer, who has helmed the Taman Impian Jaya MPKK in the Machang Bubok constituency since 2018.

Ng also shared that he rarely took any photos of himself doing good deeds as his aim was solely to lend a helping hand, rather than to be in the limelight.

He also thanked Machang Bubok assemblyman Lee Khai Loon for providing him with a platform to assist.

“I have a social media group (WeChat), whereby I will be notified if there is any emergency or eventuality in the neighbourhood.

“I can rush to the scene once alerted through the group,” he said, pointing out that he had dealt with various social issues such as runaway family members, carcasses in abandoned houses and domestic violence.

On his unforgettable experience, Ng recalled that he had encountered a man who acted aggressively toward his wife after being released from prison.

“In this situation, I would leave it to the police to take action as the person had acted violently.

“It’s better to be safe than sorry,” he quipped.

Ng said he hoped that the Taman Impian Jaya MPKK would always strive to do its best for the people.
