MBPP plans to erect living quarters for staff in Sungai Nibong

THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) is planning to utilise its existing lands along Sungai Dua Road/Sungai Nibong for the construction of living quarters for MBPP staff.

During a press conference held in Komtar today, MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran said the proposed project, located in Mukim 13, Northeast District, aims to enhance the service capabilities of MBPP staff in the area.

Rajendran says MBPP living quarters are much needed in Sungai Nibong.

“Moreover, the living quarters are much needed in that area in light of the anticipated operationalisation of the proposed Light Rail Transit (LRT) station passing through Sungai Nibong, making the area into a transit hub,” he said.

Several other land lots have been earmarked for development and the construction of additional MBPP buildings.

However, Rajendran said the project is not scheduled to commence immediately. A comprehensive study of the area by appointed consultants is required before any groundbreaking activities.

In addition to this development, Rajendran announced plans to introduce paid parking lots at various locations, including Lebuh Tungku Kudin (15), Lebuh Sungai Pinang (10), service road parking space beside Jalan Tun Dr Awang (20), Persiaran Bayan 1 (35), Lebuh Rambai 11 (50), and service road beside Jalan Sungai Ara 2 (20).

Additional lamp posts will also be installed at Lebuh Paya Terubong, Lorong Delima 12, Lebuh Rambai 14, and Lintang Pekaka 2, Taman Pekaka.
