UNDER the soft glow of a breezy Saturday morning, more than 1,000 participants laced up their shoes for a cause that went far beyond fitness, gathering at Food Bayana in Bayan Lepas for the annual charity run, ‘Happy Feet Striding for Palliative Care 3.0’.
Organised by Charis Hospice Penang, the event brought together a diverse crowd united by compassion and a shared mission to support patients facing life-limiting illnesses.
The run was officially flagged off by Penang Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) director Harry Chai Heng Hua and Charis Hospice board chairman Lee Khai.
This year’s edition marked a significant milestone. Charis Hospice not only met but exceeded its fundraising target, collecting an impressive RM415,000, a testament to the growing awareness and generosity of the community.
In a statement, the organisation said the funds will be channelled towards sustaining and expanding its free home-based palliative care services for patients with advanced cancer and other serious illnesses across Penang.
“The higher target this year reflects the increasing number of patients, rising healthcare costs, and the expansion of our care team.
“The overwhelming support we received shows that more people are recognising the importance of quality palliative care,” the statement noted.
In his speech, Gooi praised the organisation’s unwavering dedication and the community’s strong turnout.

“This is not just a run or a healthy activity. Each of you is here to show your support for Charis Hospice Penang, which has been doing remarkable work throughout the year.
“Thanks to your participation, they have successfully achieved their fundraising goal and can continue their vital services,” he said.
From seasoned runners to families and first-time participants, individuals from all walks of life filled the venue with energy and purpose, creating an atmosphere that was both vibrant and heartfelt.

Participants walked away not only with exclusive event T-shirts, finisher medals, and goodie bags, but also with the satisfaction of contributing to a meaningful cause. The event was further enlivened by a lucky draw session that added an element of excitement to the day.
