PENANG will host the Malaysia Gold & Jewellery Trade Exhibition 2026 (MGJE 2026) from May 8 to 10 at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre, further strengthening the state’s position as a regional hub for trade exhibitions.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said the event is expected to gather leading industry players from Malaysia and abroad, highlighting the strength and dynamism of the gold and jewellery sector.

“This prestigious exhibition will bring together leading industry players from across Malaysia and around the world, showcasing the brilliance and dynamism of Malaysia’s gold and jewellery sector,” he said during a media conference.

Wong said MGJE has grown into a globally recognised platform over the years, attracting exhibitors and buyers from more than 30 countries while covering the entire supply chain.

“As a high-efficiency marketplace, MGJE serves as a direct bridge between suppliers and buyers, accelerating transactions, strengthening partnerships, and delivering tangible commercial outcomes,” he added.

Touching on global developments, Wong noted that gold continues to be seen as a safe-haven asset amid economic uncertainty.

“In times of global uncertainty, investors typically turn to gold, driving prices upward as capital flows seek stability,” he said.

However, he pointed out that geopolitical risks and disruptions to logistics, particularly in key hubs such as the Middle East, are reshaping global supply chains.

“In light of these developments, the global gold trade landscape is undergoing a period of transformation. Yet, within every challenge lies opportunity,” he said.

Wong urged Malaysian industry players to take advantage of shifting trade dynamics to expand their market reach and strengthen their role in the global ecosystem.

“Industry players in Malaysia should capitalise on the restructuring of global supply chains by expanding market reach, strengthening regional positioning, and enhancing their role within the international gold trade ecosystem,” he said.

He added that Penang is well-positioned to benefit from these changes due to its strong infrastructure, industrial ecosystem and connectivity.

“As global trade patterns evolve, Penang stands at a strategic crossroads, well-positioned to capitalise on these emerging opportunities,” he said.

Wong said MGJE 2026 will not only serve as a platform to showcase products and innovations, but also drive business matching and long-term industry collaboration.

“We envision MGJE as a global platform that brings together industry leaders, fosters meaningful partnerships, and propels Malaysia’s gold and jewellery sector towards higher value creation and broader market access,” he added.

Among those present were Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) chief executive officer Ashwin Gunasekeran, Federation of Goldsmiths and Jewellers Associations of Malaysia president Datuk Chiah Hock Yew, and Malaysia Gold and Jewellery Exhibition 2026 organising chairman Law Chin Hooi.
