PENANG is all geared up for its two major events to be held on the island on Nov 24.

There will be a hive of activity on the island with the Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) 2019 scheduled to be flagged off on Nov 24 and the two-day Penang Street Food Festival (PSFF) 2019 scheduled to take place on Nov 23 and 24.

PBIM 2019 will be held at the first bridge whereas PSFF 2019 will take place at Beach Street.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced that the food festival, which would be held for the third time in a row, would coincide with the well-known marathon event.

“This is a great opportunity for the participants in the running event to enjoy the famous local dishes during their participation here.

“Festival goers are urged to make the most out of the trip to Penang by experiencing its culture and heritage while savouring the amazing street food.

“This time, PSSF 2019 will be highlighting the various ethnicities’ food, such as Peranakan Bites & Desserts, Muslim-friendly food, Hainanese delight, laksa galore and mainland gems,” he said at a press conference in Dewan Sri Pinang today.

State Tourism Development, Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said PSFF celebration was a festival to showcase various traditions.

He concurred with Chow, saying that those joining in the marathon race would have a chance to enjoy local food after the run.

“What better way to indulge in some good food while on a short break.

“This is a chance for those participating in the marathon to enjoy mouth-watering dishes,” he said.

Over 200,000 visitors are also expected to throng PSFF 2019 which will be held from 5pm to 11pm on both days.

The visitors are expected to be entertained by busking performances, cultural dance performances, cooking demonstrations and interactive games.
