Rainy season boosts Penang water reserves

WITH the start of the rainy season, the water levels at the Air Itam Dam and Teluk Bahang Dam have increased, indicating a positive development in ensuring the sustainability of the water supply in the state.

 

According to the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) website, the current effective capacities of the Air Itam Dam, and Teluk Bahang Dam stand at 80.9 % and 62.4% respectively.

The Air Itam Dam supplies water to households in Air Itam, Paya Terubong, and the surrounding areas, with around 30,000 consumers. The Teluk Bahang Dam supplies water to about 50,000 consumers in Tanjung Bunga, Batu Ferringhi and other nearby areas.

 

Meanwhile, the Mengkuang Dam has recorded an effective capacity of 91.8%.

On another note, the weather forecast report published on the Malaysian Meteorological Department website has indicated that Penang can expect rainy conditions to persist until the upcoming week.
