In comparison to the 71,843 transactions recorded last year via online payment, this has shown a significant increase of 37.85 percent.

“Therefore, this is the highest assessment tax recorded so far.

“These online transactions also help to save cost and to spur Seberang Perai to become a smart city with low carbon footprint by 2022.

“That’s why we encourage people to do more online payment,” he said in a press conference after attending the municipality’s meeting at Bandar Perda.

Payers, who came to settle their amounts during the stipulated period, were entitled to lucky draw prizes.

A total of 75 prizes, including mobile phones, mountain bikes, televisions, Ipads, electrical appliances and household items were given out to the winners.

In another development, Rozali also briefed the media on the update of illegal dumping site in Bukit Teh, Machang Bubok, which was widely reported.

He said the matter is under the purview of the prosecution unit while at the same time landowners should ensure their site is properly maintained instead being turned into a dumping place.

“We view it seriously while stern action will be taken against those involved,” he stressed.
