THE Southeast Asia (SEA) region’s premier event for the global electronics manufacturing and design supply chain, SEMICON SEA, is returning to Penang this year!

The 27th edition of the prestigious event, SEMICON SEA 2022, will be held at the Setia SPICE Arena and Convention Centre from June 21 to 23.

The event was held in Singapore from 1994 to 2013 before it was held in Penang from 2014 to 2016. From 2017 to 2019, the event was done in Kuala Lumpur. SEMICON SEA was held virtually in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19.

Themed Forward as One – Building a Resilient and Sustainable Electronics Supply Chain in Southeast Asia, the SEMICON SEA 2022 will gather worldwide experts for insights into the industry’s most pressing issues, including topics concerning the environment and sustainability and supply chain resilience.

SEMICON SEA 2022 president Linda Tan said the event would provide a timely and relevant platform for industry players to find solutions through dialogues, knowledge exchange and partnerships.

“The event is expected to draw over 8,000 visitors. The highlights include the CxO Summit on ‘Building a Resilient and Sustainable Electronics Supply Chain in SEA’, investPenang’s seminar on ‘Diverse Capabilities of the Homegrown Companies’, a smart and sustainable manufacturing tour, a series of curated technical forums, and exclusive tours to selected advanced factories in the Batu Kawan Industrial Park,” she told a media conference at investPenang in Penang Skills Development Centre today.

It is learnt that the SEMICON SEA 2022 would feature over 250 companies with 400 booths.

In addition, investPenang has also collaborated with SEMICON SEA 2022 to organise the ‘Workforce and Talent Development Pavilion’. It will showcase over 70 career booths and is aimed at hosting about 600 university students in the country. The pavilion will feature various talks by the industry leaders, a career booth tour and resume clinics.

Datuk Seri Lee Kah Choon, who is the special investment adviser to the Chief Minister, said Penang is a global electrical and electronics (E&E) hub.

“Penang contributes over 5% of the global semiconductor sales, considering the size of the state and its population. We are punching above our weight in terms of global E&E production and contribution to the industry.

“These made Penang different,” he said.

Lee said Penang has continuously upgraded and enhanced the supply chain and attracted talent to Penang.

“There are plenty of opportunities in the state, for people to choose, work and advance in their career,” he said.
