State Government has walked the talk to ensure delivery of adequate affordable housing, says housing exco.

THE Penang State Government together with Penang Development Corporation have developed, are in the process of developing and have planned to develop a total of 25, 397 units of low cost, low medium cost and affordable housing that will be made available to Penangites.

This is apart from the efforts by the private sector which has assisted the Penang State Government in its development of such low cost, low medium cost and affordable housing.

“In this regard it should be noted that some 28, 195 units of such housing has to date been built since 2008: whilst some 22,065 units are in various stages of development, and some 32, 212 units have been approved to be built by both the public and private sector,” exco for Local Government, Town & Country Planning and Housing, Jagdeep Singh said during his visit this morning to Jiran Residensi at Kampung Jawa, Seberang Jaya in mainland Butterworth.

He added that he is glad to be able to carry out the spot-check at this public housing scheme.

“I will continue to conduct such spot-check on public housing projects so as to ensure they are delivered in a timely fashion,” he commented.

This project in Kampung Jawa, known as Jiran Residensi will see some 353 units of low medium cost housing and 354 units of affordable housing being made available to eligible Penangites.

“It will be the next project by us that will be to complete with keys being handed to the respective unit owners, expected by June 2019,” Jagdeep added.

He reiterate his call upon all developers from the private sector to follow up with the initiative and effort to ensure that affordable housing plans are not merely announced, but executed up to the stage of keys being handed over to eligible purchasers in the inrest of all Penangites.

“As the housing exco, I will continue to ensure all projects by the State Government are given top pirority.

“I will also continue to monitor the progress of other affordable housing projects not only by the private sector but also by the Federal Government, in Penang.”
