THE Penang government will look into ways to tackle flash floods at Kampung Dock in Bukit Tengah.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said as of now, the state Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) is doing a study on the flood issue at Kampung Dock and the nearby areas.

“The study by DID is important to find an effective solution to improve the drainage system here.

“We are well aware that this low-lying village is a flood-prone area.

“So, the tendency for flash floods to happen is high especially during prolonged heavy rain around this area.

“Hopefully, when the study by DID is completed we can start to plan for an effective long-term solution to address this matter to reduce or minimise flash flood risk here,” Chow, who is also the Batu Kawan parliamentary candidate, said during his visit at the village today.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, who is also the Perai assemblyman, and Bukit Tengah assemblyman Gooi Hsiao-Leung.

Dr Ramasamy also urged the villagers to not throw rubbish into the drain.

“This is important to ensure the drainage system here is not clogged with rubbish.

“Clogged drainage system can lead to flash floods as well. Thus, I urge everyone not to throw rubbish into the drain,” he said.
