THE Malaysian Healthy Ageing Society (MHAS) will be hosting its 10th Malaysian Hybrid Conference on Healthy Ageing this year in Penang for the first time.

Its advisor Prof V. Nathan, together with his team, paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at his office in Komtar to discuss potential areas of collaboration to make the conference a success.

“It is a pleasure to be hosting our event here in Penang late this year, a vibrant state which offers everything from picturesque sites, lovely beaches, engaging nightlife and delightful food that reflects its multicultural heritage.

“Our primary objective is simple. It is to create public awareness for the enhancement of the quality of life.

“MHAS continuously organises programmes to inform physicians, scientists and members of the public on advancement in medical sciences and biomedical technology to detect, prevent and treat age-related issues.

“This year, we are glad to spread our wings to Penang, and with that, we hope the state government can consider assisting us in several areas such as sponsorship, arranging medical experts to be part of the various activities lined up to share insights based on their expertise and many others,” Nathan said during the courtesy call on the Chief Minister’s office in Komtar today.

As of now, the conference is scheduled to take place from Oct 20 to 22 this year at Bayview Hotel Georgetown. Due to the current unprecedented health crisis, the organiser (MHAS) reserves the right to change the date, venue and time at any given time.

Chow, on a positive note, said that the state government would be glad to collaborate with MHAS in the upcoming conference.

“We warmly welcome the idea from MHAS to collaborate with us.

“Thank you for choosing Penang as the venue this year; it is hoped that we will be able to get more relevant stakeholders to come in and be part of this conference to make it a collective effort.

“The state government would hope for future discussions to see how we can move forward in this interest shown by MHAS.

“Let us also hope that the sudden surge of Covid-19 cases in our country will eventually subside so that this event will happen smoothly,” Chow said.

This year’s conference theme is 10 Pillars To Living Longer, Healthier and Better; which will see some of the key international speakers sharing insights on areas such as emotional and mental well-being, nutrition, social wellness and engagement, technology, intellectual and many others.

Among those present during the courtesy call were MHAS members P. Ranuga Devy, Dr Sangeeta Kaur and Darren Atkinson.
