MEMBER companies of the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA) have stepped forward to support the Penang Hospital in its battle against the deadly Covid-19 by donating medical devices worth RM1.6 million.

Its president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai said the association encouraged the member companies to participate in the sponsorship initiative under the MSIA Cares programme.

“A total of 11 MSIA member companies took part and sponsored the medical devices and equipment totalling RM1.6 million.

“The companies are Greatech Integration, Plexus Manufacturing, Western Digital, Jabil Circuit, Smart Modular Technologies, Globetronics, Kok Construction, Venture Electronics Services, Flextronics, Inari Amertron and ITW Meritex,” he said before the symbolic handover ceremony to Penang Hospital in Komtar today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow was present to witness the simple ceremony. The Penang Hospital was represented by Dr Ibrahim Tahir Naosherwan Anwar, the deputy director (medical) IV.

Among the many medical devices and equipment donated were the GEM Premier 5000, which is an automated blood testing device that can provide real-time analysis and feedback with regard to the patient’s condition; the Prismaflex 8.1 (a device embedded with a system to support the recovery of critically ill patients with acute kidney injury); intensive care unit (ICU) beds; high-dependency ward (HDW) beds; and physiologic monitors.

Wong said the funds were raised in May this year and all the medical devices and equipment were delivered to the Penang Hospital in June.
