A Thirty-year abandoned project on Lot 8826 in Paya Terubong had been rejuvenated and now a MBPP wet market catering to the needs of the local community.

It was a promise made years ago when Ramkarpal Singh then first stood as the candidate for the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat replacing his father the late Karpal Singh.

A groundbreaking ceremony was conducted by the then Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng on May 14, 2016 and the initial completion date was scheduled to be in 2020.

Patsifit Construction Sdn Bhd, which was awarded the project, did better than that and brought back to life the abandoned project into its current form two years earlier.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who officiated the opening ceremony of the market as the Guest of Honour, remarked that rejuvenating abandoned projects in the state remains an agenda of the state government to benefit the people.

“The management of this abandoned project was taken over by the state government in 2008. Not only was this public market successfully being rejuvenated but the same goes to Majestic Height Phase 2A which involves 370 housing units,” Chow said in his speech.

Also present were exco members Jagdeep Singh and Yeoh Soon Hin, assemblymemberss Joseph Ng (Air Itam) and Daniel Gooi (Pengkalan Kota), MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang and Patsifit Construction director John Tan Kok Hooy.
