THE oldest public hall in Perai is set to be demolished to make way for a new one, according to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

He said the dilapidated Taman Senangin Village Community Management Council (MPKK) hall, which has been in operation for more than 30 years, is in need of replacement.

Chow said the dilapidated Taman Senangin Village Community Management Council (MPKK) hall, which has been in operation for more than 30 years, is in need of replacement.

“The state government is fully funding the project, which is estimated to cost RM2 million.

“The implementing agencies for the project are the District and Land Office (central Seberang Perai) and the state Public Works Department (JKR).

“Preliminary work on the project has already started and is expected to be completed within two years.

“In line with the Penang2030 vision, the state government is committed to fully utilising MPKK halls in the state as a place to conduct various community activities for the people such as this project today,” Chow said in his speech before the ground-breaking ceremony today.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, who is also the Perai assemblyman, Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad and MBSP councillor David Marshel.

Chow added that once the new MPKK hall is completed, it will be managed by the Perai MPKK.

“I would like to urge the MPKK Perai to take full responsibility for this new hall by organising programmes that directly benefit the local residents here.

“This project also shows that the state government is consistent in providing comfortable, safe and comprehensive public infrastructure facilities in Penang.

“We will always monitor from time to time to ensure that these halls are in good condition and are ready to be used for various social activities with the participation and involvement of the local community,” said Chow.

In addition to the MPKK hall project, Chow also announced that various infrastructure projects have been completed and assured that ongoing projects would be completed within the designated timelines.
