THE Penang International Orchid Show 2026 is poised to dazzle visitors with a breathtaking celebration of colour, beauty, and culture when it takes place from Sept 5 to 13 at Straits Quay.
Organised by the Federation of Malaya Orchid Society (FOMOS), with strong support from the Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy Office (PETACE), the nine-day floral showcase promises a feast for the senses from 10am to 10pm daily.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, speaking at a press conference at Komtar today, described the event as a vital gathering for the community.
“This is not only a floral extravaganza, but also a precious occasion for Penangites and orchid enthusiasts from around the world to gather, connect, and appreciate the beauty of nature together,” Wong said.
This year’s show carries special historic significance as FOMOS celebrates its 68th anniversary since its establishment in 1958. Wong noted that FOMOS is Malaysia’s oldest orchid society, founded prior to the nation’s formation in 1963, which is why it retains its original historical name.
The 2026 edition is expected to draw approximately 20,000 visitors, featuring around 75 orchid species, an increase from 70 species showcased last year.
Wong highlighted that the show will strengthen its international presence with participation from exhibitors, judges, and delegates from the United States, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Singapore.
“Events such as the Penang International Orchid Show contribute meaningfully to our tourism ecosystem by giving visitors another reason to visit Penang and stay longer,” Wong added, noting that Straits Quay offers an ideal waterfront backdrop while the traditional venue at Penang Botanic Gardens undergoes cable car construction.
He also commended FOMOS on its recent international accolades, which include clinching second place at the Taiwan International Orchid Show 2026 landscape competition and third place at the Genting Pre-APOC Show 2026.
Also present at the press conference were FOMOS president Tony Tan, vice-president Clarence Tang, secretary Tan Kim Lean, assistant secretary Ang Chong Yong, and committee member Lam Hin Wah. Venue partner Straits Quay was represented by senior manager Wong Siew Hui and advertising and promotion manager Cheang Ee Von.
Visitors can look forward to competitive displays, live expert judging sessions, plant landscape setups, and extensive sales spaces offering rare and prized varieties throughout the nine-day festival.
