THE Penang Signature Gold, Gems & Jewellery Fair (PSG) 2026 officially opened today at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre, marking its 10th anniversary as Southeast Asia’s premier trade platform for the gold and jewellery sector.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said the event has grown over a decade of perseverance into an essential B2B network connecting global buyers, manufacturers, and designers.

Wong highlighted the state’s central role in the national industry, noting that Penang remains the primary powerhouse for Malaysia’s jewellery exports.

“Approximately 80% of Malaysia’s gold and jewellery shipments come from manufacturers and exporters based right here in Penang. In other words, when the world buys Malaysian gold, they are buying Penang craftsmanship,” he said during his opening speech.

Wong noted that despite geopolitical uncertainties and conflicts in the Middle East, Malaysia’s gold and jewellery industry has shown strong momentum. Total trade surged 22.5% in 2025 to a record RM22.46 billion, while trade for the first half of 2026 reached RM12.13 billion, representing a 10% year-on-year growth.

Running from Aug 21 to 23, PSG 2026 features more than 100 exhibitors from five countries and regions showcasing fine jewellery, gemstones, precious metals, machinery, and packaging solutions. The fair is expected to attract over 8,000 trade buyers and facilitate more than 80 business matching sessions.

Alongside the exhibition, the three-day trade fair includes a Glamorous Gold Jewellery Fashion Show, a gala dinner, and industry seminars covering digital growth strategies on platforms like Xiaohongshu, 3D design technology, and regulatory compliance under AMLA and DCR 2026.

Also present at the opening ceremony were Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, Penang Goldsmiths & Jewellers Association (PGJA) president Datuk Ivan Chee, Elite Expo Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Johnson Lim, Federation of Goldsmiths and Jewellers Associations of Malaysia (FGJAM) president Pang Ann Puo, Penang Goldsmith & Jewellers Association (PGJA) adviser Datuk George Lo Siew Cheong, Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) chief executive officer Ashwin Gunasekeran, Malaysia Indian Goldsmiths & Jewellers Association (MIGJA) S.
