DUBBED as the biggest Penang2030 centre in the state, the Komtar Penang2030 centre is now officially open to the public, making it the 23rd centre available in Penang!

The Komtar Penang2030 centre is located at Kompleks Taman Harapan in Jalan S.P. Chelliah.

Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng said the Penang2030 centre has been placed in a strategic location that has the highest population in the Komtar constituency.

Teh said the Penang2030 centre has been placed in a strategic location that has the highest population in the Komtar constituency.

“This initiative is to make it easier for the constituents here to maximise the use of this centre.

“Six months ago, the Komtar Penang2030 centre underwent a soft launch and today, it is the official opening.

“The spacious centre is equipped with ICT facilities to conduct various activities, such as free legal advice services, chess competitions, debate competitions, press conferences and meetings,” Teh said in his speech before Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow officiated the opening of the Penang2030 centre today.

Teh also thanked the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) for allowing them to rent the unit at a special rate.

He stressed that the centre is for all the Komtar constituents to conduct any beneficial programmes to empower the community and also to get any latest update on the state government’s initiatives for the people.

Also present were Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim, Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang and MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran.

According to Teh, the Komtar Penang2030 centre is not just a community centre, but will also serve as the Komtar service centre (which will be relocated soon from Jalan Talipon).

“Thus, the community here can get proper services or report any issues they are facing in the constituency through this centre.

“This centre also can become a platform to better inform the public about the Penang2030 vision,” he said.

Chow congratulated Teh on the success of the official opening of the Komtar Penang2030 centre, which would enable the grassroots level to understand the vision better.

“It is hoped that through the Penang2030 centres, we will be able to encourage greater community participation, particularly among our youth, in various initiatives.

“This is in line with a crucial theme of the Penang2030 vision, which is to empower people to strengthen civic participation.

“After all, as a state government, it is our duty to ensure the public is well aware of the happenings in the state, especially policies, current and future development plans and many other issues too.

“Thus, we need to engage and encourage participation by the public through this platform,” he said.
